Meet Julie

Right now, Texas needs a person willing to listen, to engage with everyone from Runaway Bay to Krum.

Born and raised in Texas, Julie is proud of her Texas roots and has firmly planted them in the Denton soil for over 30 years. When her husband of 36 years, Jack, left the Navy, they returned to Texas to raise their son, Nick, and two daughters, Maggie and Chelsea.

After graduating from high school and earning an Associate's degree in Journalism from Navarro Junior College, she attended UNT, where all three of their children would graduate with Bachelor's degrees.

She raised three children, dropped off her youngest daughter at high school, and then reentered the workforce. She found her dream job, where she shaped the lives of students in the Special Education classroom. After retiring, she perfected the art of baking bread, growing vegetables, and spoiling their 2-year-old granddaughter, Nora.

In the spirit of both families' tradition of service, Julie now throws her hat in the ring to serve Texas.

Texans are facing obstacles that are deliberately put in our path by an overreaching, intrusive government, dark money, and billionaires who control it.

We need to raise the minimum wage, keep rural hospitals open, and address the unnecessary tariff war restricting our farmers' marketplace.

Dedicated to protecting civil liberties and the Democratic process, Julie will be a champion for the rights of all Texans.

Issues *

  • Let's face it, we are paying higher utility bills just to prop up an unreliable power grid. Texas has solar and wind energy ready to be used, but big oil billionaires are rewarding politicians for restricting these alternative energy sources. Texas has lots of land for solar and wind use. Let's use that in addition to our existing fossil fuels to lower energy costs.

It's past time for Texas to raise the minimum wage. In no county in Texas can a full-time worker earning minimum wage afford a two-bedroom rental. Combine that with escalating energy bills, and we are seeing more and more young Texans move back home, relinquishing their independence.

  • Our farmers' workforce has collapsed. Our food costs are the highest they've been since 1979, up over 30%. Ronald Reagan acknowledged the economic contributions of undocumented immigrants. He supported a path to legal status, saying, "Illegal immigrants in considerable numbers have become productive members of our society and are a basic part of our workforce. They should be recognized and accorded legal status. At the same time...we must not encourage illegal immigration."

There is a direct correlation between current illegal ICE activity, the loss of farm workers, the arbitrary imposition of tariffs, and high food costs.

  • Greg Abbott and his lackeys have moved the goalposts in Texas by implementing a mid-decade redrawing of Texas' congressional districts. And they did it by bullying their legislation through the Texas courts. This gerrymandering is particularly abusive because, with new fine-grained data on the population, we can see how people are likely to vote.

Republicans are doing Trump's dirty work to try to keep a majority in the US House. With a US Supreme Court firmly in Trump's court, the Texas Democratic legislature must work to undo this act that violates the voice of Texans.

  • A shortage of agricultural labor is a major contribution to rising produce costs in Texas. Less than 30% of ICE detainees in Texas have a criminal record. How many of those members of our community help put food on Texans' tables? This cruel and shortsighted agenda is the wrong path to a legally secure border.

Our community is full of hard-working Texans, contributing to every aspect of our lives. We are starting to see the harmful effects the cruel ICE activity is having on our everyday neighborhoods, from high food costs to labor shortages to losses in taxes.

  • We are starting to see the devastating effect the Republican Party’s shutdown will have on millions of Americans. And close to 4 millionTexans. These partisan politics are holding us back from reaching real solutions for Americans. Rising deductibles will create a flood at the emergency room, causing rural hospitals to make tough choices.

No Texans should have to drive over 100 miles to see a healthcare provider. And in an emergency, we often have precious moments to act; every mile will be important.

  • I support commonsense gun safety measures, such as universal background checks and keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of criminals, while respecting the rights of Texas’s responsible gun owners.
